Does a person become an unbeliever (kafir) by doubts (shubuhat) if these whisperings (waswas) turn into certainty? What is the difference between shubhah (doubt/ambiguity) and shakk (uncertainty)? Is it obligatory to apply the Prophetic tradition (hadith) regarding seeking refuge with Allah and spitting (tafful) with every fleeting whisper, or only when the thought takes hold? Is one sinful if they ignore quick thoughts without applying the hadith?

"The whispers (waswasah) might become a شبهة (doubt/misconception), but the person experiencing them does not become an infidel because of them. However, they must consult scholars. Thoughts are of two types: unstable ones that can be repelled by ignoring them, and stable ones caused by a شبهة (doubt/misconception) that can be repelled by logical reasoning and examining their falsehood. "Let him seek refuge in Allah and desist" means seeking refuge in Allah and turning away from thinking about the devil's whispers. One becomes an infidel by doubt (شك), which is the equality of two matters, not by experiencing intrusive whispers. One must turn away from whispers and seek refuge in Allah from Satan, for the weakness of Satan's cunning becomes evident before divine power. Whoever abandons seeking refuge, despite knowing its obligation, commits a sin."
