Does "one's nearest kin are most deserving of kindness" include one's mother and father, and does "kindness" include zakat and sadaqa?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The parents are the most deserving of righteousness. The mother is foremost in good companionship, then the father, then the closest relatives, then the next closest. Allah has enjoined mothers three times and fathers twice, then the nearest then the next nearest. It is recommended to prioritize the mother in righteousness, then the father, then the children, then the grandparents, then the brothers and sisters, then all other unmarriageable kin (mahārim) from among the relatives, prioritizing the nearest then the next nearest. Showing kindness to parents in all forms of goodness is required.
