What is the ruling on taking a commission for bringing transactions to insurance companies?
The ruling on working in insurance companies depends on the type of insurance. If it is cooperative, solidarity-based insurance, then there is no objection to working in it and benefiting from its earnings. However, if it is commercial insurance based on gharar (excessive uncertainty) and gambling, then it is not permissible to work in it, due to the Almighty’s saying: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." As for the compensation being a percentage of what is obtained from the work, there is no objection to it according to some scholars, and Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah issued a fatwa permitting it, citing what Ibn Qudamah said regarding the permissibility of ju'alah (commission/reward) even with unknown compensation, if the uncertainty does not prevent delivery.
