The answer

The abundance and variety of study materials can lead to mental distraction. Therefore, one should proceed gradually in seeking knowledge, focusing on mastering and memorizing what has been learned before moving on to something else, while seeking assistance from a shaykh. If knowledge has been forgotten, it should be studied anew if the forgetfulness is complete or mostly so. If it is partial, it should be reviewed through reading and repetition. Furthermore, piety towards Allah and abstaining from sins are among the causes of memorization, for knowledge is light, and the light of Allah is not guided to a disobedient person. It is also obligatory to adhere to Islamic regulations when a woman receives knowledge from men or in mixed-gender environments.
