Is a ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory for someone who has stopped praying for a long time, and are the alms (sadaqat) and zakat that were given during that period sufficient, or must they be given again?

Abandoning prayer is a grave sin, and the preponderant opinion is that it does not constitute apostasy that takes one out of the fold of Islam. Therefore, ghusl (ritual bath) is not required after repenting from it, and the person retains the reward for their previous acts of obedience. The penitent must continue to be upright and make up for the prayers they intentionally missed, according to the majority of scholars.
