How do I know if my mistress is lying to me?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Loving a foreign woman is forbidden, as it corrupts the heart and turns it away from the remembrance of Allah and prayer. The hearts of lovers are the farthest hearts from Allah. The harm of passionate love ( عشْق ) is not limited to corrupting one’s religion; rather, it assassinates the intellect and spoils worldly interests. It is considered the greatest corruptor of both religious and worldly affairs.

Indeed, passionate love can reach the level of major shirk (polytheism) if the lover takes his beloved as a rival (to Allah), prefers her satisfaction over the satisfaction of his Lord, expends his most precious possessions for her, and gives his Lord what is left over. This indicates a hidden shirk, against which scholars have warned.

Whoever has fallen into this malady must hasten to extricate himself from it and turn to Allah, seeking help through abundant prayer and remembrance (dhikr). For prayer prohibits indecency and evil, and the remembrance of Allah is a fortress against Satan. As for the beloved’s lies, the questioner should not concern himself with them; rather, he should abandon sins and attachment to foreign women.
