Is the feeling of the sweetness of faith diminishing due to loving a woman one cannot have, and having no desire to marry her, a big problem? And what is the way to forget her and restore the sweetness of faith, and is loving her evil?
The self, if not occupied with truth, will occupy its owner with falsehood. Love is an innate disposition, and the greatest love is the love of Allah, due to His absolute perfection and beauty. This love is realized by performing the obligatory acts of worship and drawing closer to Allah through supererogatory acts, which leads to Allah's love for His servant. This divine love illuminates the face, expands the breast, and brings happiness in this world and the Hereafter. It differs from polytheistic love, which equates the love of Allah with the love of others. Natural love (for children, wife) is not polytheistic, and a man's love for his wife is permissible and commendable. As for a man's infatuation with someone other than his wife, if it is unintentional and does not lead to sin, he is not blamed for it, and his owner is praised if he keeps it secret, remains chaste, and perseveres. However, infatuation resulting from a forbidden act requires repentance. To overcome the love for a woman, it is advised to marry or to fast and occupy oneself with what brings one closer to Allah.
