What is the ruling regarding blood that continues to flow from a wife after her miscarriage in the second month for more than 35 days, and is it considered nifas blood that prevents her from praying?
Scholars have differed concerning the blood discharged after a miscarriage: Is it considered (post-natal bleeding) or not? Some have restricted it to the presence of human formation, while others to the 'alaqa (clot) and mudgha (lump of flesh). The Shafi'is said: If a woman miscarries an 'alaqa or mudgha in which midwives see the beginning of human creation, then the blood thereafter is nifas. The Malikis hold that congealed blood that does not dissolve when hot water is poured on it is considered nifas. As for the Hanafis and Hanbalis, they do not consider the blood nifas unless human formation is apparent in it. And since the questioner is from a country where the Maliki is prevalent, she can adopt their opinion that congealed blood that does not dissolve with hot water is considered nifas, and therefore, she is not obliged to make up the prayers missed during its discharge.
