It is not permissible for a woman to attribute herself to her husband or his family, as this involves attributing oneself to other than one's father and imitating the disbelievers. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No man claims to belong to other than his father, while he knows it, except that he has disbelieved. And whoever claims to belong to a people whom he does not belong to, let him take his seat in the Hellfire." It is not permissible for the husband to force his wife to do so, and obedience is not obligatory in such a case.
