What is the importance of honoring one's parents in light of the Qur'an and Sunnah?

Filial piety holds immense virtue in Islam; it is an act of obedience to Allah Almighty and His Messenger, peace be upon him, and a cause for entering Paradise, as stated in the Ahadith. It also fosters affection and love, and is considered an expression of gratitude to them for your existence and upbringing, in addition to being a reason for your children to show piety towards you.
