What is the ruling on the fast of one who is assailed by thoughts he is not pleased with, experiences discharges, and wishes for death?

It is from Allah Almighty's mercy upon His servants that He has forgiven them for what their souls whisper or suggest, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it. These thoughts, by consensus, do not affect the validity of the fast. One must combat these thoughts and replace them with what benefits the servant. As for wishing for death, it is forbidden, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "None of you should wish for death due to a harm that has befallen him. If he must wish for death, let him say: 'O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die if death is better for me.'"
