What is the ruling on working in a field that sometimes promotes mixed-gender events and sometimes does not? Is it obligatory to leave it? And is it sufficient to donate a portion of the salary to purify the money?
The mixing of men and women is not uniform; some forms are permissible, while others are forbidden. If the mixing in events is forbidden, then it is not permissible to promote them, and one must abandon work that necessitates such promotion, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." For assisting in disobedience to Allah is forbidden. The salary earned from this forbidden promotion must be disposed of for the general welfare and benefit of Muslims. This does not, however, mean that it is permissible to continue in the job; rather, it must be abandoned unless it is possible to avoid the forbidden aspects within it, as the sin is connected to engaging in work that involves assisting in what is forbidden.
