Which is better: to increase in supererogatory prayers or to recite more Qur’an from the Mus'haf for one who loves to pray and is content with one or two Juz' daily from the Qur’an?

Both actions (prayer and reciting the Quran) are among the greatest acts of closeness to Allah. Scholars have stated that engaging in prayer is better than reciting the Quran because prayer encompasses recitation, bowing, prostration, remembrance (dhikr), and supplication (du'a). Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that superiority varies depending on people's circumstances: prayer is better than reciting the Quran, reciting the Quran is better than dhikr, and dhikr is better than du'a. However, some actions may be forbidden at certain times, such as prayer during times when it is prohibited. The superiority may also differ based on individuals and situations; for some, recitation is more beneficial than prayer, and for others, dhikr is more beneficial than recitation. If a person is engaged in memorizing and understanding the Quran, then seeking knowledge is better than performing supererogatory (nafila) prayers, while emphasizing not to neglect the regular Sunnah prayers.
