Is it permissible to seek revenge on those who assaulted and tortured me, causing me to bleed and violating my honor?

It is advisable to pardon and forgive relatives who have erred, while inviting them to repentance and striving to reconcile their differences, as this has a better and more praiseworthy outcome in the sight of Allah. If this is not possible, then the path to obtaining one's right is through the legitimate judiciary, by proving what occurred with evidence. It is not permissible to usurp the authority of the ruler or to exact personal retribution.
