Is it permissible to use Messenger to communicate with family and friends, despite the prohibition of the father, who uses it himself, knowing that its use is for study communication and not for play?

The Messenger program is a double-edged sword. Its ruling is similar to that of a telephone device. If a girl uses it to converse with other girls about permissible or good matters, then it is permissible. However, if she uses it to converse with men, or with girls in a way that does not adhere to Islamic guidelines, then it is forbidden.

If a father forbids his daughter from using it, she should try to convince him that she uses it for beneficial and permissible purposes. If he is not convinced, then obeying him by refraining from chatting through it becomes obligatory, because obedience to the father is obligatory unless he commands disobedience. His forbidding his daughter stems from his compassion and desire to protect her, and his own use of it does not justify disobedience to him.
