What are minor sins? And is a person held accountable for them?

A person is held accountable for minor sins, and these can lead to their destruction. Persistence in committing minor sins transforms them into major sins, just as belittling a minor sin can render it equivalent to a major one. Ibn al-Qayyim explained that a major sin can become minor if it is accompanied by shame and fear, while a minor sin can become major if it is accompanied by a lack of shame and contempt. The Prophet, peace be upon him, forbade belittling sins, likening the "insignificant" sins to a group of people who gather small twigs until they have enough to bake their bread, emphasizing that minor sins can destroy their perpetrator if taken hold of.
