Is it permissible to distance oneself from parents who practice neglect and discrimination to the extent of causing psychological harm to their daughter, for fear of being undutiful to them? And what is the solution with them?
A father's right over his son is not forfeited by his mistreatment or injustice towards him, due to the narrated by Ibn Abbas: "Even if one of them angers him, Allah will not be pleased with him until they are pleased with him." It was asked: "Even if they wrong him?" He replied: "Even if they wrong him." Therefore, it is obligatory to honor them, maintain ties with them, and not sever relations with them. It is permissible to reduce visits to them if that preserves affection and avoids anger. The solution is to be patient with them, seek Allah's help, strive to maintain respectful conduct, gently attempt to reach an understanding with them, or involve wise relatives or righteous individuals as mediators.
