Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) extend the madd (prolongations) mentioned in the books of Qira'at (readings), or was it an ijtihad (independent reasoning) by Hamza?

Allah Almighty guaranteed the preservation of the Quran, and it reached us through continuous transmission (tawatur), including the madd (lengthening) and tajweed rules. These are established by continuously transmitted chains of narration (asanid mutawatirah) from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited to him with madd in "Indeed, zakat expenditures are only for the poor and the needy" (إِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ). Al-Suyuti stated in "Al-Itqan" that this hadith is hasan (good) and jalil (great). Thus, madd is established by continuous transmission and the Sunnah of the Prophet. The disagreement among the reciters was concerning the measure of the madd, not its origin. What some of the Salaf disapproved of in Hamza was the exaggeration in madd, not its origin.
