Is Zakat al-Fitr obligatory upon the father for his children who live with their mother?

A father must pay Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of his children for whom he is financially responsible, unless they are wealthy and possess their own money, in which case the Zakat is taken from their own wealth. If a child does not have money, then the Zakat al-Fitr for him is incumbent upon his father by consensus. There is no difference in the obligation of Zakat al-Fitr upon the father for his young children, whether they are under the care of their mother or someone else, because their maintenance is obligatory upon him if they do not possess their own money, and similarly, Zakat al-Fitr.
