What is "the matter" that was taken from Himyar and placed in Quraysh and will return to Himyar, according to the Prophetic Hadith?

This matter — meaning the Caliphate — was among Himyar, then it was taken from them with the advent of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and placed in Quraysh. It will return to them at the end of time. There has been disagreement regarding the authenticity of this Hadith (definition). Al-Hafiz deemed it good, and Al-Albani authenticated it, while the author of "Ahadith Mukhtarah" said it is denounced (munkar) and contradicts the agreed-upon "This matter will remain in Quraysh as long as two people remain among the people." A reconciliation between the two might be by interpreting its return to them as being through usurpation and aggression. Ibn al-Jawzi said it is denounced (munkar) due to the weakness of some of its narrators and the تدليس (tadlis) of others.
