What is the ruling on the Umrah of a woman who performs Umrah with her husband, who is afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, while she is in full possession of her mental faculties?

A woman is not permitted to travel unless accompanied by a mahram. The mahram must be an adult and of sound mind, so that he can protect and safeguard the woman. A person afflicted with Alzheimer's disease is considered a mahram if he is of sound mind, understands matters, recognizes his wife, the time, and the place, and is capable of attending to her needs and caring for her during travel. However, if he is not aware, or is aware at times and unaware at other times, then he is not fit to be a mahram, as the matter varies according to the severity of Alzheimer's disease.
