Can a man who repented from his unlawfully gained money, acquired from selling drugs, and with which he bought a house then sold it and profited from it 20 years ago, purify this money by selling a piece of land he owns and donating its price to the needy?

The man must sincerely repent from selling alcohol by regretting it, abandoning the sin immediately, and resolving never to return to it. He must also dispose of the illicit gains by spending them on the welfare of Muslims. It is permissible for him to sell the plot of land to get rid of these ill-gotten funds. As for the profits generated from illicit money, the preponderant opinion is that they follow the principal sum, and therefore, they must also be disposed of.
