Is it obligatory for everyone present at the burial of the deceased to pour soil into the grave, or is it sufficient for only some to do so? And is he who did not participate in pouring the soil considered among those who followed the funeral and will receive the reward of Mount Uhud?

Everyone who attended the burial and did not throw dirt is hoped to receive the reward of the two qirats mentioned in the hadith in the Two Sahihs from Abu Hurayrah: "Whoever attends the funeral until the prayer is offered, will have one qirat, and whoever attends until it is buried, will have two qirats." This is because the reward is linked only to attendance, and participation in the burial is not mentioned. Scholars have stipulated that it is desirable to throw dirt into the grave three times, because it was narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, threw three handfuls, and because Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, did so. It is desirable to say with the first handful: "{From it We created you}," with the second: "{And into it We return you}," and with the third: "{And from it We will bring you forth once again}."
