Is it not arrogance for a Muslim to title himself "Doctor" and place it before his name, and to boast about a doctorate in any field, and does he have the right to do so after the toil of studying?

It is permissible to address a person as "Doctor" if it is in the context of self-introduction in a situation that requires it, such as in authorship, research, and conferences, because the apprehension of arrogance is weak here. Also, it does not differ from scholars introducing themselves by their countries or schools of thought, and because the title has lost much of its academic connotation and has transformed into a description of an educational stage, and due to the frequent use of it by scholars. However, if the title is used excessively or boastfully and ostentatiously, it is disliked and reprehensible, and humility and abandoning it are obligatory.
