What is the ruling on one who abandges prayer, and is he to be killed, and how is this punishment carried out?

If the father denies the obligation of prayer, he is an apostate (kafir) by consensus. However, if he acknowledges its obligation but neglects it out of laziness, the preponderant opinion is that he is an apostate. His children must advise him, warn him of Allah, explain the importance of prayer, and the danger of abandoning it. If he does not respond, his case must be brought before the Sharia court to make its decision regarding his wife, because she becomes separated from him if he is judged an apostate, and she must not allow him access to her until the matter is clarified.
