Is it permissible to offer discounts on goods as a form of advertising and to attract customers, and what is the ruling on purchasing from stores during discount periods?

It is permissible to sell goods and services for less than their market value, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. Their evidence can be summarized as follows: interfering with price setting is a forbidden injustice, Islamic law encourages leniency and ease in buying and selling, and the prices of goods are the right of their owners, and they should not be restricted in this regard. Some scholars, however, have deemed this impermissible, and this is the view of the Maliki school. The preponderant opinion is permissibility, due to the strength of the evidence supporting it, and because the fundamental principle in exchanges is mutual consent and the permissibility of sales. However, if the ruler deems that the public interest necessitates prohibiting sales below market value due to the potential harm involved, he has the right to do so, and it may even be obligatory.
