Is it permissible for a company—established with a bank loan that must be repaid—specializing in the production of gas for beverages, to deal with companies specializing in the production of carbonated and alcoholic beverages, knowing that the revenues go back to the bank and for administrative expenses, and that there is strong competition in this field?
Loans are of two types: good (حَسَن); which is repaying the equivalent without any increase, and this is permissible. And usurious (رِبَوِي); which is repaying the money with an increase, and this is forbidden. What is obligatory upon one who has taken a usurious loan is to repent to Allah, repay the loan, and rid themselves of the corrupt contract. As for selling gas to soft drink and alcoholic beverage companies, it is not permissible if these companies have no source for gas other than your company, because it is known that the gas will be used in intoxicants. However, if your company is one of several companies that sell gas to those companies, then there is no objection to the sale, because it is not known whether they will use it in soft drinks or alcoholic beverages.
