What is the ruling on shaving the beard if growing it out is for the sake of adornment?

Shaving the beard is unlawful (haram), and growing it in compliance with the Sunnah earns its doer reward, even if he intends it for adornment, because it is the adornment of men. However, if one grows it solely for adornment without the intention of compliance, there is no reward for him, but he does not incur sin, for "deeds are by intentions."
