The phrase could also be interpreted as a promise or a threat of divorce, in which case nothing takes effect even if the wife attends, as divorce does not occur unless the husband pronounces it. Therefore, if the wife goes to her sister's wedding, divorce does not occur. Suchphrasing should be avoided.
