What is the religious ruling if some students' answers in exam papers are corrected at the request of the employer, and what is the ruling if the student was failing?
It is not permissible to correct students' answers in tests, whether the student has failed or passed, because that constitutes cheating and a betrayal of trust. There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa stating that supervisors dictating answers to students is cheating, betrayal, and unlawful, due to the generality of the hadith: "Whoever cheats us is not of us." Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned that a student should report a teacher who tells him the answer to the administration.
