Must I continue fasting for two consecutive months as expiation for an abortion ten years ago, even though my husband rejects this expiation and suggests limiting it to seeking forgiveness and not repeating the act?

Whoever causes a fetus to miscarry after it has been formed, must pay a ghurrah (a male or female slave), or one-tenth of the mother's blood money. The ghurrah or blood money is to be divided among the fetus's heirs, and the perpetrator of the crime does not inherit from it. Some scholars have also made it obligatory to fast for two consecutive months as expiation, while others consider it supererogatory. No vow is necessitated by abortion, and if a woman vows to fast but her husband has not permitted her, he may prevent her from doing so.
