Did Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, participate in the Ridda Wars that occurred during the time of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, or was he isolated from events during the six-month period in which he did not pledge allegiance to Al-Siddiq?

There is no authentic evidence proving the participation of Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) in the Wars of Apostasy (Ridda Wars).

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that Ali's wars after the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were three: Al-Jamal, Siffin, and Nahrawan.

His non-participation in the Wars of Apostasy does not mean his opposition to Abu Bakr; rather, he used to pray with him and converse with him.

Ibn Kathir mentioned Ali's departure with Abu Bakr to Dhu al-Qassah, but the chains of narration for these reports are weak due to the presence of an unknown narrator.

It is most probable that the reason for his non-departure was due to two matters: The first is Abu Bakr's consideration for the state of Fatimah al-Zahra and her need for Ali to comfort her. The second is Abu Bakr's need for the senior Companions to remain in Medina for consultation and the administration of state affairs. Ali – like Umar and others – was akin to a minister for him, and he continued in this role during the time of Umar and Uthman.
