The question

Is the husband obligated to divorce his wife who does not care for the home and family, is emotionally cold, goes out without his permission, prefers her family over him, and sometimes refuses his marital rights, especially since she is pregnant and accuses him of injustice, despite his repeated attempts to guide her and the intervention of his family and hers?

The answer

Marital disputes can be resolved with wisdom and deliberation, far from insults and beatings, except in the case of the wife's disobedience (nushooz) and her unresponsiveness to admonition and boycotting. In such a case, it is permissible to strike her lightly, without causing injury, though it is preferable not to resort to it if it leads to a greater harm. Errors should be addressed with patience and advice, and a third party should be avoided in simple problems. It is not permissible for the wife to leave without her husband's permission or to refuse his right to the marital bed except for a valid excuse. The husband should explain these matters wisely, apologize to his wife, and seek her forgiveness for what he said about her, and cover her faults, especially if she has repented. Divorce is not recommended unless the dispute becomes entrenched and all means of resolution have been exhausted. If it occurs, it should be done with kindness.
