It is forbidden to supplicate with words that are not understandable, out of fear that they may contain polytheistic () expressions; because what is not understood cannot be guaranteed to be free of shirk. And incantations () that are not Arabic in their wording, nor understandable in their meanings, nor authentically transmitted in Islamic law, are a whisper from Satan; as it is not known whether they contain disbelief (kufr) or magic.
