What is the authenticity of the hadith: "Whoever invokes blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) eighty times after the 'Asr prayer on Friday, before rising from his place, will have the sins of eighty years forgiven, and the worship of eighty years will be written for him"? And what is the ruling on institutions that disseminate this hadith? And what is the status of Abdullah ibn al-Nu'man, who classified the hadith as sound (hasan)?

The statements of scholars have consistently ruled that the hadith is weak and extremely deficient; it is batil (false) and it is impermissible to rely on it or narrate it except with a clarification of its condition. Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Iraqi's statement that Ibn Al-Nu'man deemed it hasan (good) is rejected, as there is no evidence for what is mentioned in the hadith regarding the specification of the time after Asr, the number eighty times, doing it before rising from one's place, and the resulting reward, except for this false hadith. What is prescribed is to frequently send blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on Friday and its eve, without specifying a particular time or number. As for some institutions printing, distributing, and publishing this hadith, it is a reprehensible act that is impermissible. It is obligatory to forbid them from it and warn them of its consequences, for the hadith is batil (false) by the testimony of specialists.
