Changing gray hair is recommendable (mustahabb) and not obligatory according to the majority of scholars. It is recommended to change the gray hair of the head and beard. There is no objection to dyeing with any color other than black. It is permissible to dye hair with henna and katam, and it has been authentically reported that some Companions dyed their hair with henna.
