How do you deal with college/university and your parents, and convincing them to marry you off or get you engaged, given the temptations and your desire for chastity?

The engagement is merely a promise of marriage, and the fiancée is a stranger to her suitor. Marriage is one of the greatest means of chastity and protection. If you are able to marry, then hasten to do so, and if your father is able to marry you off, then it is incumbent upon him. It is not permissible for parents to prevent you from marrying under the pretext of studying, for marriage can be a cause for excellence. If you fear falling into temptation (fitna), then marriage is obligatory for you. You should try to convince your parents gently, but if they insist [on their refusal], then marry even without their consent if you are able to. Otherwise, you must fast.
