Is using adhesive tape to straighten rows permissible or an innovation?

Placing lines or adhesive strips in the mosque to straighten rows and correct the qibla is permissible and not an innovation (bid'ah). This is because it is a means to achieve a legitimate purpose, which is the straightening of rows, an act whose virtues are indicated by religious texts. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa permitting this, and Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen supported this opinion, explaining that a religious innovation is worshipping Allah in a way He has not prescribed. As for matters of this world that are introduced and serve as a means to a legitimate purpose, they are not considered innovations; rather, they may be commendable and beneficial. Examples include loudspeakers and lines on carpets for straightening rows.
