Is it permissible to name someone Abd al-Muttalib?

Scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of being named with any name that indicates servitude to other than Allah, such as "Abd al-Muttalib." Ibn Hazm and Ibn al-Qayyim transmitted this consensus. However, Ibn Hazm saw an exception for "Abd al-Muttalib," citing the hadith: "I am the Prophet, there is no lie... I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib." But the majority of jurists responded that this is a statement of informing about what he was known by, not a matter of naming.
