Can sorcery truly occur based on ethereal vibrations within the affected person, without the aid of jinn?

The scholars of knowledge mentioned that among the types of magic is that which does not involve the use of jinn. An example of this is the sorcerer taking a trace of the bewitched person, blowing on it, and tying knots, as mentioned in Surat Al-Falaq.
