Is sorcery a science separate from jinn?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Sorcery is of different types. Some types rely on seeking assistance from Jinn to harm a person, while others do not. Among the Jinn, there are righteous ones, corrupt ones, believers, and non-believers, as stated in the Almighty's قول (statement): "And indeed, among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] deviating from that; We have been various sects." (Al-Jinn: 11). And as Al-Qurtubi said: "Not all Jinn were disbelievers; rather, they were diverse: some of them were disbelievers, some were righteous believers, and some were believers who were not righteous." It is not far-fetched that some of them engage in sorcery, and there are certainly devils among them who assist sorcerers in their magic and teach it to them, as in the Almighty's قول: "but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic" (Al-Baqarah: 102).
