What are the clear evidences that jinn have a role in sorcery, and what is the ruling on sorcery?

Magic is among the reprehensible acts and major sins, and it is a nullifier of Islam if it involves teaching and direct interaction with devils. Learning and teaching it is major shirk (polytheism) because it cannot be achieved except through the worship of jinn and seeking their aid. However, if magic involves the use of drugs and chemical substances, its practitioner does not commit an act of disbelief. Jurists have determined that a sorcerer is to be killed in all cases.

Magic is divided into two types: 1. Disbelieving magic: This is magic that the sorcerer receives from devils. This type expels one from the religion, and its perpetrator is to be killed. 2. Aggressive and oppressive magic: This is magic that relies on physical medicines and drugs. Its perpetrator does not commit an act of disbelief, but they must be killed to prevent their corruption.

The religious proofs affirm that magic is performed through rebellious jinn and devils, as stated in His Almighty's saying: (And they followed what the devils recited during the reign of Solomon. And Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic) Al-Baqarah/102.

The exegetes have mentioned that the devils used to listen to revelation and add to it, then taught it to people after Solomon's death. The interpretation of His Almighty's saying: (And from the evil of the blowers in knots) Al-Falaq/4 refers to the female sorcerers who tie knots and blow upon them with the names of devils to cause harm. So, devils are the masters of magic; they teach human devils magic that involves incantations, demonic enchantments, knots, and blowing.
