Is it permissible to impose an economic boycott on the enemies of Allah and those who transgress against the religion and the Messenger (peace be upon him)? And is there any evidence for this from the Prophetic biography?

Economic boycott of the enemies of Allah and those who transgress against the religion and the Messenger, peace be upon him, is permissible. It may even be obligatory if it is the only means to weaken them and stop their transgression, because that without which an obligation cannot be fulfilled is itself obligatory. An example of this is the action of Thumamah ibn Uthal, may Allah be pleased with him, when he withheld wheat from the people of Mecca until the Prophet, peace be upon him, gave permission.
