Is what the Sheikh said true about Yazid, that he was an infidel who openly committed immorality, beat drums, and drank wine, or is it what some sheikhs say about being pleased with him?
Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah was neither a Companion (Sahabi) nor a Tabi'i (successor) who followed with excellence. During his reign, Husayn ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was killed, and he and his group were denied water. Furthermore, Medina was declared permissible for three days, which led to the killing of many people and the committing of atrocities. The meticulous scholars do not declare him an infidel, but one should not say "may Allah be pleased with him" concerning him. The Ahl al- wa al-Jama'ah (Sunnis) hold the view that he should neither be reviled nor loved, as stated by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Imam al-Dhahabi. This is because it is not permissible to curse a specific Muslim, and because love for Yazid is not like love for the righteous.
