What is the ruling on one who goes to sorcerers and performs sorcery on his son, friend, or wife? And does Islamic law prosecute a father who bewitches his children? And what is required? And is it merely a matter of filing a lawsuit? And are two witnesses necessary? And does the judge consider the psychological state of the plaintiff? And can someone who has been issued a medical report stating that he is insane file a lawsuit against the one who issued it to him, even though he is sane and the issue does not go beyond depression and some fear? And what is the ruling on a father who admitted his son to a psychiatric hospital and obtained a medical report stating that he is insane? And what is the father's punishment from the judge? And will he be sentenced to prison? And for how long?
Sorcery is one of the greatest sins. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, counted it among the seven destructive sins and warned against going to sorcerers. And whoever comes to a soothsayer and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. It is not permissible to accuse anyone of sorcery without evidence, especially one's parents. If a father's sorcery is proven, the son should not complain to the courts. Instead, he should treat him kindly, advise him, explain the stern warnings to him, and ask him to undo the sorcery with legitimate , because prosecuting one's father is an act of disobedience, and a parent's supplication is answered.
