Is it permissible to distance oneself from a mother toward whom no affection has been felt after a 16-year separation, and whose behavior is not as desired?
It is not permissible to abandon one's mother or boycott her on the pretext of not feeling affection or due to her bad behavior. Rather, one must be dutiful to her and associate with her in kindness, for Allah has commanded it. She is the one who bore and suffered in raising (children). The Qur'anic verses and Prophetic traditions have mentioned the virtue of the mother and the greatness of her right.
