How is the funeral prayer performed?

How to pray the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah):

1. The First Takbir: Commence and recite Al-Fatihah. 2. The Second Takbir: Recite the Salawat (Ibrahimiyyah) upon the Prophet, peace be upon him. 3. The Third Takbir: Supplicate for the deceased for forgiveness and elevation of ranks. The best supplication is that which was authentically reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him: «O Allah, forgive him, and have mercy on him, and grant him well-being, and pardon him. Be generous to his lodging, and expand his entrance. Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins as You cleanse a white garment from impurity. Grant him a home better than his home, and a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse. Admit him into Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave.» 4. The Fourth Takbir: Supplicate for all Muslims, living and deceased, such as saying: "O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, our present and our absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whoever You keep alive from among us, keep him alive upon Islam, and whoever You cause to die from among us, cause him to die upon faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not let us go astray after him." One may also add the supplication authentically reported from Abu Hurayrah: «O Allah, indeed he is Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your female servant. He used to testify that there is no god but You, and that Muhammad is Your servant and Your Messenger. And You know best about him. O Allah, if he was a doer of good, then increase his good deeds. And if he was a doer of evil, then overlook his evil deeds. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward, and do not test us after him.» Then conclude with Tasleem.
