Al-Hajjaj was an oppressive, tyrannical, murderous ruler. Allah destroyed him in in the 95th year of the Hijra. He was unjust, a tyrant, malicious, and a shedder of blood, yet possessed courage, daring, cunning, eloquence, and great reverence for the Qur’an. He had good deeds submerged in a sea of his bad deeds, and his affair is with Allah.
