What should you do if you make movements with your mouth or face while reading religious matters, and are you sinful for that, especially with the feeling of fear that it might be mockery of religion or its rulings, particularly concerning mockery of the Companions like Ibn Abbas?

The questioner is advised to stay away from the whispers of mockery and not to expand on them. Whoever knows that he is afflicted with whispers must turn away from thinking about apostasy and strive to gain a deeper understanding of the religion, occupying his time with what is beneficial. The default is that a servant remains Muslim until there is certain proof of his departure from it. The scholars have mentioned that whoever speaks words that could indicate apostasy or something else does not become an infidel by that, especially if he is afflicted with whispers. If there are ninety-nine interpretations that point to the excommunication of a Muslim and one interpretation that keeps him in Islam, then that one interpretation should be acted upon.
