Do the statements of the four madhhabs indicate the detestability (karāhah) of wearing trousers for men and women—among women and within the presence of mahrams only—and not its prohibition (taḥrīm)?

Excessive questioning about the ruling on women wearing trousers is not commendable. Some texts quoted from jurists do not pertain to tightness, but rather to imitating disbelievers, and some relate to the 'awrah (private parts) during prayer, not for viewing. Many scholars have differentiated between the 'awrah for prayer and the 'awrah for viewing.

The jurisprudential texts that mention the dislike of wearing clothes that accentuate the 'awrah are not sufficient to rule that trousers are disliked, because a woman wearing trousers involves the prohibition of imitating men.

Women in our time have become lax in this matter. If jurists had seen what is happening, they would have ruled with greater strictness. Therefore, we do not believe that the aforementioned texts necessitate issuing a ruling of mere dislike rather than prohibition on women wearing trousers.
